This needed its owns post, I have stuff to update about today but I ran across this video and wanted to talk about it.
This was us leaving home for the hospital on the day of my surgery, August 3rd, 2026. It was such a private moment but I wanted to share it because it shows so many emotions of a cancer diagnosis. It shows a side most people don’t get to see. It shows fear, my fear, terrified to leave my family and undergo a major surgery to remove a tumor from my body. It shows us doing the hard shit even though the last thing we wanted to do was go.
Ultimately, to me, it shows the strength and love from my husband, who is my rock. He has taken on so much during these past couple months. He has taken on both his role and my role in the household. He makes dinners, he does the dishes and up until this week, he did the majority of the cleaning. All while stepping into a new career that was foreign to him and put him at the bottom of the totem pole which was a culture shock in itself. He is doing all this for his family and asking for nothing in return.
He helped me pull up my pants after surgery when I couldn’t reach them, he helped me on and off the couch. He made me dinner every night and make sure I had enough calories to heal properly. Some days I feel like I don’t deserve him. We have had many mornings the past two months crying on the porch and talking about the things that scare us and then coming to terms with what we need to do to get through this. He has come with me to almost every appointment and been there to hug me outside the oncologist office on our first visit.
I have seen videos on social media that say, don’t marry someone you can have fun with, marry someone who will be there when the shit hits the fan. Or something to that effect and it’s true. While we have had a ton of fun in our lives together, this is the most serious our life has ever been and he is my person I can depend on. My best friend and my rock.
I just want people to know that I couldn’t fight as hard as I am without him. I don’t know how I would do it. I’ve told him so many times, but one more, thank you David. I love you.
